Second Fan on MSI GTX 980 Stuck on ~40%

Hi,

I've had an MSI GTX 980 for over two years now and a couple of days ago, I noticed that the second fan, counting from the I/O of the card, was spinning without any load, while the first fan was not. Going into MSI Afterburner to look at the fan speed settings, told me, that the speed was indeed set to 0% because of the light load (speed set to auto). When manually setting the speed of the fan (I did not forget to click apply), the speed of the second fan did not change. I estimate the fan speed to be around 40% by comparing it to manually set "first fan" speeds. Googling made me find little information, the only thing I did find, was a recommendation to flash the bios. I tried flashing the bios today, using a combination of different tutorials, but couldn't figure out why my cmd commands were not doing anything. I have a fresh install of windows 10 pro and a lot of confusion. Next step would be to email the retailer but I thought I'd ask here first.

Thank you for reading, Iso

I found this quote floating around: ''and through the use of multiple thermal sensors our RPM profiles for each individual fan are activated.'' The airflow in my case is quite minimal but it'd still be weird if i had no control over the second fan's speed. Also am not aware of a way to check the reported values of the "multiple thermal sensors" with common methods like gpu-z.
