Hello all !!

Looking for a little assistance with an issue I am having on an older Gateway One model GZ7112. I have added an additional 2GB SODIMM in the second slot (2 total slots). Originally, it had 1 stick Samsung 2GB PC2-6400S 666mhz in one slot and nothing in the 2nd slot (Motherboard has 2 total slots). I have purchase the exact same model that was existing (Samsung 2GB PC2-6400S 666mhz). If I use any of them by themselves, in either slot, I have no issues. Computer runs like it should. Once I install both SODIMMS, the computer is extremely slow. Takes about 3-4 minutes for the POST to complete and show splash screen. Takes a few more minutes for it to enter BIOS and navigating in the BIOS menus is next to impossible as it's like everything is in slow motion.

I have been working on computers since 1992 and NEVER seen an issue like this so I am lost. The only thing I can think of is a BIOS upgrade but there isn't any available. Newer or older.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated !!!!!!

Solution
Yes. Even though the new memory module is the same part number as the original memory module, there is no guarantee of (full) compatibility between the two modules due to variation in module characteristics.

If possible, in BIOS increase DRAM Voltage by 0.05 V but don't exceed 1.95 V. No guarantee of success though.
