Computer failing/restarting on its own

I've had issues with BSODs in the past, but never figured out how to fix them. Now I fear that my computer is seriously damaged. I have issues where my computer abruptly restarts on its own, or fails to load windows explorer or taskbar. Sometimes the screen will freeze and become corrupted before restarting too. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do?

Solution
Would help if you listed full system specs so we know what you are working on. You can try different RAM, resetting BIOS to defaults, try a new hard drive with a clean Windows setup, maybe you need a new power supply or motherboard. Could be many things.

I am just thinking that the hard drive is full...
Because windows keeps making backups of all your files...until the hard drive overflows.

Or I am thinking that you downloaded a bunch of "free" tools from the internet, which corrupted the drive.
(like "free" antivirus)

Put the WIN7 disk in the drive...
Select "upgrade."
This reloads windows without erasing the files or applications. And, will repair a corrupted system.

Then: you may want to avoid any "free" downloads, and use a real antivirus instead.

I've tried testing onboard video, and each ram stick but my computer is still having issues.

The only antivirus is use is MSE and my hard drive is far from full.

Next step would be a clean Windows setup to rule out any software issues.

One more thing to check is if the CPU heat sink is clogged with dirt. Remove the fan and inspect the heat sink.
If the heat sink is clogged:
If the fan has stopped running:
the symptoms you are describing will occur.
