So I think I should start with my peripherals/specs :

CPU : Intel® Core™ i5-4440 Processor 3.1Ghz
GPU : GIGABYTE GEFORCE GTX 1070 G1 GAMING VR READY GV-N1070G1
RAM : 8GB SAMSUNG 1600MHZ DDR3
Motherboard : Gigabyte H81
SSD: NONE
HARD DISK : 1TB Western Digital
OS : Windows 10 Professional
CPU cooler : Cooler master (no idea what version)
PSU : 600W Chieftec

Do you think there's any need to upgrade my CPU to a better one ? I've had it on my mind lately because I've been getting pretty horrible FPS in few games and it quite pisses me off due to the fact I've got a 1070 and unable to play flawlessly.

Thanks for every comment and idea in advance !

4790. I'd purchase a new 16GB RAM kit if you are going to upgrade your RAM. CAS Latency? 9. Speed? 1600 if you want. RAM Is just expensive so the $100+ you invest may end up being useless. The amount and speed you have now may be more than enough like the 8GB is enough in my PC. MSI AB can offer a definitive answer abut RAM usage.

Running an ssd will make a massive difference. You could upgrade the processor but with the spectre exploit now out, I would wait till later this year and into next year to look for a new cpu.

I second ArchitSahu on this. A better PSU is very important. If that one dies, it can take with it a lot of money. CheifTec PSUs are held in little regard. Get a tier 1 or 2 unit from this list: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html

Then add in the SSD and extra RAM. Honestly, I think that should roughly cap out that build. Getting a new CPU is too much for too little return on that socket.

The SSD will offer faster boot times, Windows navigation, produtivity tasks such as Lightroom and game load times. You will see an FPS boost of exactly 0. It doesn't help your gaming performance at all. I'd pass on the SSD. Your concern is FPS and people are suggesting a SSD. What am I missing?

I'd upgrade to the 4770 or 4790.... And you left out the motherboard. K version if it's a Z97.

Check your 12V reading in your BIOS. 12.0-12.5 is okay. Still, I'd upgrade it.

Aquielisunari,

A boot SSD will add performance to much of the system. but if, like most others, the page file on the HDD is running off of a 5,400 rpm WD blue/green (this exact spec was not specified), the performance will drop. 8GB or RAM and running the overflow into a HDD page file will reduce performance. If the page file is on an SSD it's a closer parity to standard RAM. Someone is welcome to correct me on this, of course.

Extra RAM will allow the OP to eliminate the page file entirely, but even at 16GB windows likes to use the overflow at times.

Yes it will but it will not increase FPS. That is the core issue expressed by the OP. Your scenario is one better suited for someone with a 1080 Ti and a platter based HDD regardless of speed. The user may be experiencing hitching( looks like stuttering but isn't) which the SSD can cure.

Edit : Guys,I'm talking about gaming performance.I'm having FPS drops for example in bf1 when there's alot of shots&action going on.

Please read before commenteting !

You've got my point ! well sir what 4770 or 4790 are you talking about? i7 or i5 ? plus my motherboard is H81.any recommendations for a RAM/motherboard upgrade if needed ? Thank you so much !

Those are both i7 processors. I am still using 8GB 1866MHz 2 x 4GB and I do occasionally check with MSI AB. While an upgrade may be incrementally better it isn't a necessity just yet. Only way you'll know is if you can see your RAM usage in real time.

Which upgrades would you recommend me then? I want to run every game smoothly and I don't mind the price as long as it isn't goes beyond the 600$ and is actually efficient haha :)

If a short and dirty way it is basically like a stoplight for RAM. The lower the number, the faster the RAM can respond to requests. First you need to meet the game's need as far as quantity is concerned. Next up is the speed of the RAM such as 1866, 1333, 1600 etc.. The faster the better. Some games will respond a lot better to faster RAM. Install 2400MHz DDR4 RAM in one system and 3200MHz in another, assuming they both support DDR4 RAM. They both have 16GB. There can be a FPS increase. Increasing RAM would be useless. Going from 1600 to 1866 isn't going to help. Once you have enough RAM and a fast enough speed, latency is next on the list of importance.

So basically you're saying that in my case you'd just add more RAM and it'll fix my FPS drop in certain games ?

No. You can't go up to 3200Mhz. that was just hypothetical.

I said
Going from 1600 to 1866 isn't going to help.
. It's the CPU that I think will help the most.

in my country 4790 costs 400$. Do you think it's worth the money (if not then what other CPU&motherboard should I get )? plus yes I hope the 8GB of RAM will be enough.

Even if you will switch your ram and cpu , You won't be able to get the maximum performance you are looking for. since your motherboard is restricting the hardware(newer cpu, from the latest series , newer & faster ram) you can put in it.

so basically you're saying everything depends on the motherboard and then everything else?

if so, what kind of a motherboard would you recommend and CPU & RAM (if needed)

The 7490 is just a waste this days. If your budget is 600$ you should buy this motherboard https://ksp.co.il/?uin=30464&select=.3. and this cpu https://ksp.co.il/?uin=37337&select=.2.

Have fun and game on.
