This happens when I play games or work on video related stuff. This has just started happening yesterday and I've had this pc for 4 years already. I don't know what is causing it. Any help is very much appreciated!
Now it is also happening when I'm doing mundane tasks like surfing the internet or even just starting up my computer?? What's going on?

SOLUTION:

Thanks for all the help guys, it seemed to not be a hardware related issue, but some stuff in my Windows registry was screwed up. I looked in the windows Event Viewer program and it gave me tons of DCOM errors anytime the pc randomly rebooted. It had to do with not having enough permissions for that particular process (or something I dunno) to run/work. I had to change some stuff in the registry and change permissions in the component services and I haven't had a random reboot/black screen since!

Anyway, thanks a lot for the help!

My power supply is as old as my computer (4 years).
Does that matter though? Do I need to replace it?

Some power supplies are only warrantied for 3 years or less so yours may be failing. I had problems in games going to a black screen and freezing with a year old power supply. Replacing it with a better quality unit totally fixed the problems.

Okay, I just ordered a new PSU, I hope this fixes the problem, I'll get back to you. Thanks for the help so far!

I just installed a new and better PSU, however the problem still persists...
Any other ideas?

I unfortunately don't have integrated graphics in this PC. (I7 5920K)
Is there another way to test to see if my Graphics Card is the culprit?

It started happening after I installed the new Windows 10 update, I already reverted back to a previous build to test if that update was the culprit, but it still happened anyway....

The only other options are to borrow a graphics card, even a low-end one, and see what happens or to try the card in another computer.

I went back to an older version of Windows 10 where the crashes didn't happen.
That didn't help unfortunately...

Okay, I took out an old graphics card from my other computer. (Didn't know it would work in this one, hence I didn't try it yet). I'll see what happens. I'll let you know!

I'm really at a loss here. Even with the old graphics card the computer still does it

I'll try to describe it in more detail
My computer goes to a black screen randomly. (No signal, no error code) (Most frequently under heavier load - gaming, video editing, music editing). Before it goes to a black screen the screen freezes for about 0.5-1 second and if I am playing sound the audio sounds like it crashes as it freezes the audio for the same duration (It sounds something like ' Drrrrrr'). After that the computer restarts. A lot of the times after such a crash happened it also just restarts without warning at the windows login screen or even at the motherboard loading screen before that.

- I already did a memtest, no problems detected.
- I replaced the PSU
- I tried a different GPU
- Changed PCI slots
- Replugged all cables twice
- Installed latest Nvidia GTX 960 Driver.

Any other ideas?

Have you tried running who crashed again? Are you overclocking? What are the GPU and CPU temps and usage under load?

Could the RAM, SSD or HDD be at fault? If so I will test each stick of RAM seperately (even though memtest gave nothing) and use my old HDD to boot the PC. Is that a possibility?

I would look at the motherboard to see if any components look like they are damaged, i.e. look for bulging capacitors or discolored components. A number of years ago I had random reboots on a computer and looking at the motherboard showed a bulging capacitor. Fortunately ASUS replaced the board and fixed the problem.
Also, if you can, see if any of the components on the motherboard are very hot when it crashes.

Nothing seems out of the ordinary on the motherboard. Maybe I just don't have the eyes for it, so I'll take a picture after I ruled out the heat suggestion. Thanks for all the help so far guys!
