How long do we have to wait to see new CPUs without Meltdown and Spectre issues?

Hello, I plan to build a very expensive workstation to do computationally intensive number crunching tasks and knowing that there are issues with the current CPUs and software fix could affect performance, I am a bit hesitated to invest a lot of money to buy the highest-end CPU. How long do we have to wait before Intel and AMD release new CPUs that are not affected by these issues?

Solution
I would expect a couple of *years* before we see CPUs that are not at least potentially affected.

What are we at now? tick, tick, tick, tock or something with Intel, for example? Given the architectures and revisionist nature, opposed to completely revamps CPU lineups, you're likely looking at years of R&D before a "new-new" lineup comes up, completely safe from this type of issue.

That's not to say patches etc won't be more readily available for "new" CPUs in the next couple of years (Ryzen 2nd Gen, IceLake et al), but the underlying "issue" is still going to be present. << From what I understand anyway.

AMD isn't heavily effected by this.

Zen 2 is listed as fixing the issue and will be out late this year or early next.

Are Intel saying they'll actually be "fixed" ? Or just "patched"? I can't find anything confirming either way.

Even the AMD press release (linked by delaro) isn't 100% definitive to me.

Longer term, we have included changes in our future processor cores, starting with our Zen 2 design, to further address potential Spectre like exploits

Sounds promising, but not a definitive "it will be fixed" - further address, to me, sounds like it's intending to close it up some, but stopping short of confirming it's fully "fixed". Just my $0.02.

They're mitigating the issue in hardware, meaning there shouldn't be any performance impact like with the microcode fix. However nowhere did they say these new chips are completely immune. They will continue to harden them in future architectures. In other words, it's not a black and white "yes they're fixed" or "no they're not". Even if the current variants of the exploits no longer work, that doesn't mean they've stopped all potential side channel attacks.

This applies to AMD as well, though as of right now they have a better track record in terms of attack vectors.

As far as i know any new intel cpu's will pretty much have it solved, otherwise it's like selling a boat with a massive hole in the bottom.

Either wait for those or buy AMD because as far as i know although they still had the specter vulnerability but it was only if the attacker had physical access to the computer.

I hesitate to invest on 7900X and the X299 system since I do feel that it is ship with a massive hole in the bottom.

Is it true that the Threadripper has trouble in running 64GB or more RAM at 3200Mhz?
