Powering My Gtx 1070

Hello Guys,

I just purchased a Palit Gtx 1070 8gb DDR5 GPU.
It came with an 8 pin to dual 6 pin connector.
I need to know if those dual 6 pin connectors are supposed to carry power from the psu at the same time to GPU,

in other words are you supposed to plug both of the 6 pin connectors in the psu then connect the 8 pin connector into the GPU.

Please Advise,

i have tried asking this question on fb pages and some were saying no i dont need to others where saying yes i need to.

We should probably start with what your power supply offers. If you have two 6-pin or two 6+2 pin, or one 6+2 pin, and one 6-pin then you can just plug it in direct. The included adapter is just that, an adapter for someone who has a single 6+2 connector.

Single 8-pin is equivalent to dual 6-pin. I know it seems odd, but 6-pin connectors have 2 12V+ lines, 8-pins have 3 12+ lines. They are given safety ratings of 75W and 150W respectively. Really more like 120W and 180W.

Woops, backwards.

If you have two 6-pin and need a single 8-pin, use the adapter as you described.

Yep, the Y-connector is there to take in 2X 6-pin connections from your power supply and output 1X 8-pin to the graphics card. They include it because a lot of older power supplies have enough power, but no 8-pin connectors.
