Hey.

Will this PC be okay for new games?

I5-3470
16GB DDR3/1600
GTX 1050 2GB (In future something more powerful, but rest will be still okay?)

Solution
Yes,it will be. Intel has not made large gains in performance for the past few generations.

16GB is considered good by today's standards.

If you ever upgrade beyond this in the future, then you will be looking at a new CPU, motherboard, and DDR4 memory (assuming DDR5 is not out by that time), and so on. DDR4 will not fit in LGA 1155 motherboard.

I am pretty certain that, once you have the motherboard, the GTX 1050 GPU would be the weak link. The first upgrade I would make, once the GPU prices come down to normal, is for a GTX 1060 (6GB).

A free CPU is definitely a good start! Are you certain it's in good working condition?

It depends on what you mean by ok, I would say you should be able to play new games at 1080p at medium setting for the most part, though as always depends on the game. Some games probably high setting others maybe low.

With a 1080 ti? He should be able to play most games at high at 1080p @60fps, oops wrong post...

The big thing would really be your resolution and refresh rate. Assuming 1920x1080, you'll do reasonably at medium settings. A GTX 1060 6GB will allow you to max out details at that resolution @60Hz.

But, it's solid overall to start with. Some games are more CPU intensive, some more GPU intensive.

Yeah, if he's going to get a better GPU he's going to want to get a better CPU first so he wont bottleneck

For first, thanks for answers.

The key is, i want to build a PC and have this CPU for free. Motherboard will have LGA1155 - will i have to change motherboard before CPU upgrade in future? Or there is some good on 1155?

And one more question. Will DDR3/1600 16GB be enough for couple coming years? Or i will have to upgrade to DDR4?

Im sorry for my weak english.

@EDIT: Those are only plans, i will know budget in a few months, so i will probably post again to ask exactly about parts. I want to build PC for games, but not too expensive. Im afraid that i will have to change not only CPU, but Motherboard and RAM too, so i ask out of curiosity. I want this PC to be easy for upgrade.

On 1155 you can get 3rd gen i7's as long as your motherboard supports the specific CPU. So unless you want to get something newer than 3rd gen i7's your motherboard should be fine.

And 3rd of i7 will be enough for gaming on medium/high for couple coming years? Of course with properly GPU and still same RAM.

One more question, last. How long can i play on this CPU without coercion of upgrade it.

Before buying a new cpu make sure your mobo supports it, then buy a 3rd gen i7 and a better gpu like a 780, 970-80-ti or a 1060 or 1070 but youll most likely bottle neck with a 1080 (ti)

Yeah, its in almost perfect condition, because my friend was playing only Tera 3 months.

The key is that, i want to build not too expensive PC on this CPU (because i have it for free), but i would not want to buy too soon new ram, cpu, motherboard and everything, because i just bought it 5 months ago. I want this PC to be easy for upgrades like i said, without big costs.

Thanks everyone for help, im sure i will post with budget to ask about your recommendations.

Have a nice evening everyone!
