power supply question

Hi,

I have an ATX power supply 400w that I've broken out to use as a bench power supply (-12v, +12v, +5v, +3v).

I'm going to wire it up with an LM317 for variable voltage output.

I understand that the current rating for the +12v is quite high (~8A), but I've heard that the -12v rating is much lower (~.8A) ... I would likely by using -12v to +12v to get 24v output, and I want to know the current rating of that voltage supply.

1)Does anyone know how to determine the current rating of the 24v output, and if

2)Using a voltage regulator + linear stepdown converter would help mitigate any current issues over 1A

thanks!

Solution
If you connect the + 12 and the -12 to get 24 volts.....your current will be limited to .8A.

I don't understand your #2 "question". Please explain further.
