Trying to get data off an old maxtor n256 (2001)

I'm using the vantec adapter but my computer doesn't seem to recognize the hardirve; I have no idea what to do next

1. The drive may be dead. It IS 17 years old.

2. Your adapter isn't connected properly.

3. The jumpers may be set incorrectly.

The power on the hardrive seems to work,

Jumper J50, Master On, Slave Off

I have no idea about this stuff
