Do I really need chipset drivers for my cpu?

Solution
^As the above posters are saying, if you want everything working correctly, install them. It takes minutes to install *all* your motherboard drivers. Best to get it out of the way as they can only make things better.

This is just one of the "essential* - if you will - steps after building a new computer.

Not sure if you were specifically asking about the chipset drivers alone, but I feel like I need to add (possibly for other readers that find this)...

I know that a new build / part can be exciting and you may feel the urge to go from 0 - 100 instantly starting <insert activities> but doing all of those steps ensures that you're truly ready to go and makes it so that you're not scratching your head later on when there's a problem with something.

Good luck =)

If you don't install them, either stuff won't work, or Windows will try to install what it thinks are appropriate generic drivers. These generic drivers rarely work as well as those provided by the motherboard manufacturer. So you'll be needleesly decreasing your system's performance by not installing the chipset drivers.
