I have a standard Samsung 2.5 Sata Hard Drive. I haven unscrewed all the screws from the hard drive (even the one under the sticker) and even after doing this I can not get inside the hard drive. Other hard drives I have opened have had no issue. But there almost seems to be some super glue present that is preventing me from getting inside the hard drive even when I have removed all the screws. Could this be the case or am I missing something? Someone please please help.
Hello I just had a hard drive failure (internal hdd sata) I tried a few things and finally after watching a video on how to open it (but it was like yours a 2.5" I also was aware of screw hidden under the label. so I removed all the screws i could see including lifting the label off. (But no screw there?) Yet the damn thing would not come off... So I brought in the heavy 'artillery' and pried it off making a nice mess of the cover! I could not get anything out of the HDD but was not surprised as I took hint of the warnings. However the demo I saw was successful to recover most of the files on the sick hdd.
However later looking at my cover, by then folded in three! By accident I passed my finger over the cover's outside and saw on the inside where the head of the screw/s had been embedded in the metal, something moving... What actually happened was that the manufacture stuck an additional "chrome" sticker over "the three screws" area that needed also to be removed! They are close together and well hidden for the unaware as it seems that it is just the metal cover, but it can be peeled off!
As for the wisdom to attempt something like that; I guess it depends on the data you're trying to save. If it's not very important it's probably worth the gamble. Otherwise one needs the best solution...Professional that is.
I do understand about particles in the air and how fragile the disks are from contamination...And perhaps I will not take that gamble again?
