So hey i wanted to upgrade my cpu after upgrading my GPU and i wanted to upgrade from Intel pentium g4400 to INTEL Core i3-8100 and my motherboard is PRIME B250M-K
and i just wanted to know if it will work on my motherboard :) thanks for the reply :)

Solution
Here is a list of processors supported by your motherboard along withy the requisite bios level.
https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/PRIME-B250M-K/HelpDesk_CPU/
CPU-Z will tell you what your bios is.
You can also see the bios level in the bios initial screen.

If you bought the motherboard a long time ago and have not since updated the bios, you will likely need to do so to support a I3-7100.

They would but your better off with the Pentium equivalent as there both dual cores with hyperthreading, look at the G4560 or better. Or just save up for the 7500.

well i could save up for the i5-7500. thanks and another question is i3-7100 even worth the 110 euros (i live in europ so i have euros) like is the preformance upgrade worth the 110 euros because i think g4400 and i3-7100 dont have much difference and the 110 euros are probably not worth it so i could save for the i5

Ok thanks. i think ill go with i5-7400 because i REALLY can't go any higher in the price right now and i need to buy a new monitor too so ill need some money there too but any ways thank you all for your tame :) TY

Windows apps see only threads.
From that point of view, a I5 7400@ 3.0 has a passmark rating of 7415 when all 4 threads/cores are fully utilized.
It has a single thread rating of 1959. Single thread performance is important for games. Few games can effectively use more than 2-3 threads.

A processor like the I3-7100 @3.9 has only two cores, but 4 threads.
The extra threads make use of unused parts of the main core to dispatch a second thread.
Of necessity, the second thread will be less capable.
It has a passmark rating of 5838 but a better single thread rating of 2232.
If your main use is for multithreaded apps, then full cores are preferred. Ryzen is very good for this.
But for gaming, faster threads are preferred.
An exception might be multiplayer games where many threads is more important.

well which would you personally use for games like fortnite or GTA 5 i5-7400 or i3-7100?

The motherboard came out with the sixth gen CPUs. If you want to use a 7th gen CPU they usually require a bios update. The support page for your motherboard says the 3 7100 has been supported since bios 0301, so if you already have at least that one if not a newer one then you're good to go.

edit: haha, this thread moved fast, I'd also recommend an i5, you want a quad core if possible and that means an i5 in the 7xxx series
