Hi guys i have to ask about the R3 1300X on how good of a processor it might be for gaming wise since i saw that it is better than the i7 3770 (yes i know that is an older processor but i am using as well a i5 2500) and also would like to know what might be the sweet spot for overclocking it because for certain games i would actually like to have it look better than the game looks now so any input on it will help out.

Also the reason why i am looking at the 1300X is because it is within my budget range and while the 1200 from what i saw can overclock to 4GHz i don't plan on overclocking right away but only when the processor starts to like dim down in a way to make it last a little longer than it is suppose to and would like to note that the games i am planning on playing is mainly Deus Ex Mankind Divided and Watch Dogs and maybe Battlefield 1.

Ya see the thing is i am actually going for once in my life with AMD cause almost every week there is a new thing with Meltdown which makes me a little worried about upgrading to a newer Intel processor and also i am using a 1050 Ti for my GPU which i have done a few tests for Deus Ex MD on DX 11 and 12 which i mainly played the game on high settings getting roughly 40 fps on average and for GPU's i am going to mainly stick with Nvidia because while those RX series doesn't seem that bad for certain games it sort of like is not fully up to par with Nvidia since the 1050 ti is like 8% to 12% better than the 4gb RX 560.

I was originally thinking of getting the Ryzen 5 1400 because that would of been in my budget till i found out it was only giving like 2 fps more than the 1300X and also the games i have seen for those benchmarks for comparing was really just GTA V which i don't really play because i sort of like stealth elements in games which is why i like the Watch Dogs games.

Oh ya and just like to mention as well for Intel motherboards right now for the 300 series costs too much as well since the only thing selling is the Z370 series and one from Asus or ASRock would cost me alone between 170$ to 200$.

Meltdown and Spectre did not affect gaming as such yet... http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-performance-meltdown-spectre-intel-amd,5457-8.html

For some specific games the 1300x might be on par with 1400, but overall it will not only perform better in the long run with multithreaded games, but also last you longer. Its worth the extra price if you want a bit more longevity out of the build.

Intel processors outshines AMD purely for its faster IPC. That might or might not change with Ryzen2.

Inspite of all the above things, 1300x is a fine gaming chip for now.

When i was talking about for Meltdown was meaning like when people had certain instances of random resets and things like that not about for gaming performance but i have read in a few other places for 4th gen i core series it was affecting gaming performances.

The Ryzen 3 1300X is only slightly, as in 1-5%, faster than the 3770k. The non k version of the 3770 is still less than 10% slower. If this was a gaming/workstation, the 3770k would be superior to Ryzen 3 as it has double the threads. If you want to go to AM4 I recommend at least Ryzen 5 1600. Otherwise it would be better to just upgrade to the best Ivy Bridge chip and save money not having to buy a new motherboard and DDR4 RAM.

Don't even let Meltdown/Spectre factor into the equation here, it is a non issue on regular consumer platforms.

If you currently have an i7 Intel platform (or could upgrade), I'd stick with that for now. By no means are they falling behind in gaming or multitasking ability. RAM prices are also stupid high to build a new system right now.

I'd see an i5/i7 -> Ryzen 3 as more of a side-grade than an upgrade.

I am using an i5 2500 that is correct and i was originally thinking of just upgrading to a i7 3770 but i don't trust ebay that much and locally people are selling it for 250$ but the Ryzen 3 1300X is selling for 150$ (Also i am talking about Canadian funds) and was just thinking of building towards something newer but not costly.
The motherboard i am originally looking at as well for upgrading is this one https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813119030 which i mainly just trust Asus and ASRock for motherboards since those are the only companies i have used and trust and to be honest i only plan on gaming with that system i don't really do any work on it ever since i got that Lenovo IdeaPad 310 that is using an i5 8250U which it isn't really ideally used for gaming since when i tested out Sleeping Dogs on that laptop it couldn't go past medium settings.
Also i was thinking of getting the Ryzen 5 1600 originally but it is way out of my budget since it is 240$ and my total budget i would be spending up to is 550$ max no more than that and to be honest if the prices for memory wasn't so crappy i would of went for the 1600 instead but the cheapest up here is 215$ for a 16gb kit which is this one https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820232505 so you can see why i am not able to do a better build and 250$ for a used i7 3770 seems like a rip off to me.

In that case, switching to the AM4 platform should give you a better upgrade path...

Oh i have my motherboard and memory set and 8gb is to minimal for me as well which is why i am aiming for 16gb of memory and i am getting this case as well https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119324 because i wanted to have something cooler cause i do look at my case once in awhile.

If your ONLY gaming DO NOT FAVOR 16 GB OF RAM , over faster parts. Go for the 1600 and a 1050 to, and than 8gb of ram. The only time you'll notice a difference is when video editing, and other memory intensive games.

I have a few games that is memory intensive that i play Deus Ex MD is one of the few and when i played it with 8gb of memory back then i was using 99% of my memory which is why i am aiming for 16gb of memory for when i do my new build.

The 3770k would perform very similar to the 1300X and is just as overclockable. This chip would cost $220-270 on eBay but requires no motherboard or new DDR4 RAM or Windows reinstallation. If you are on Windows 7 then you will experience issues with Ryzen as well. Those things should be considered too. Also the 3770 non k is under $200 and would only be only 5% slower than the 1300X in games and also have double the threads. Ryzen 3 is entry level and i7 is high end so of course the Intel costs more chip for chip even if it's older. eBay is fine as long as you buy inside North America from a store with at a good rating.

If your budget is $550 the only way you could get on to Ryzen is by buying just the CPU+motherboard+RAM combo and recycling all your old parts such as PSU and GPU. No way can you build a complete Ryzen system for $550 unless you are just talking about the bare bones. If $550 is the budget for just the CPU+motherboard+RAM then you could still go for Ryzen 5.

also don't buy 16GB of RAM if you don't need it also. It's a waste of money. If you need 16GB there is no way in hell you well get Ryzen and 16GB for under $550 even if you are just buying CPU+motherboard+RAM after taxes.

You are trying to build a machine around a single game. That is not a good way to build a pc.

I only mentioned a game there is others as well that i play that requires more than 8gb of memory but just not mentioning them.

I actually have a 550w PSU which i got about 5 months ago because my old one burnt out and i have a 450w laying around that i used as a back up as well in case anything was to happen and for GPU i have a 1050 ti so really all i am doing is replacing my motherboard, CPU, Memory and case because i would like something a little better than what i have and right now the case i am using is a Cooler Master K350 which is nice but i just want to have something better.

Also another thing is i do all my PC part shopping on newegg because of ebates because i would get some cash back and while the 3770K is a nice thing my motherboard is not able to overclock so that would be a waste of money for me i find.

What GPU do you currently have, because I bet the vram is lacking, meaning it's offloading some to system RAM. Either way even when it is using 8gb... It will most likely not enough extra to make it your best bet

Again i am using a GTX 1050 ti as i have mentioned to someone else so i do believe that i have enough Vram.
