New graphics card hooked to an old MB

I 'm getting a constant income but its not enough to buy a new pc yet , so I bought a seasonic psu 3 months ago to power my old pc , so I have it alive , next I would buy a graphics card , (I dont mind bottlenecks at this point) , my MB is msi k9agm2 , it has a pcie gen 1 , and supports win 7 max , cpu is athlon 64 x2 , 4gigs ddr2, and I'm willing to buy a gtx 1060 , I will hook it to this old pc for about 5 months or so till I have enough money for a ryzen pc , I can c that both card and mb has drivers for win7 , the question is will it work ??

A gtx 1060 is waaaaay overkill for that system even if it worked on it which it most probably wouldn't

I know its way overkill but isnt it backwards compatible , thought it might give a push for the next five months till the ryzen arrives .

I'm skeptical about it being compatible with a PCIe gen 1. gen2 and 3 is not a problem. If it's some prebuilt, brand name computer it might be even more complicated. In some cases newest BIOS may help. See if you can find it's changelog and if there's something about PCIe compatibility.

I choose to wait till i get my ryzen all together , I dont have time to learn working on bios , and if i took the risk it may not work , as u said in some cases newer bios (may) help , if it didnt help then I'll cry for wasting time , thank u for answering luv u

That may be for the best, in few month GPU prices that are way to high now may come down. Right now you could most probably build a new system using Ryzen 3 2200g or R5 2400g with decent graphics built in, for money spent on a 1060.

Yes thats another reason I decided not to buy gpu now as it may get cheaper over time , at least because the new volta will arrive .
No ryzen apu in Egypt yet , so I decided to buy an a8 9600 cuz its the highest am4 apu here , and for its low price , later ima buying a 1060 gtx and a ryzen 5 as upgrade then may be another 2x8 ddr4 sticks and I'm done , i cant wait to rejoin games again even at low graphics for a while , its been like 7 years or more without games lol , I actually dont know how I survived that
