I am new at pc building and I just bought an old pc that I hope to upgrade into a decent gaming pc using the best deals I can find. mainly because I don't have a lot of money , I mean I'm just a poor highschool student . ok enough of that here's the problem I found a gtx 580 for 30$ which is a pretty good deal but the psu that came with the old pc I bought is only a 380w psu so now I have a system with a gpu that I can't run . I have 80$ left but that's all I have and I still need a monitor and a keyboard. but I've heard that the psu is one of the most important parts of a pc so I figured 50$ should be good . on Amazon I found a corsair vs 600w psu for 37$ I know corsair is a dependable brand and this would satisfy all my immediate needs but I'm open to suggestions.

You can use this list as a loose reference... https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/631048-psu-tier-list-updated/
PSU prices are not quiet affected by the other component prices. Its mostly stable. You can look out for deals though.

I think i an going to buy the corsair vs 600 it comes with a three year warranty and I have yet to find an incident where it has shorted out a system the worst I've found is it stops working after 4 months and if that happens I can get a replacement du to the warranty and it's off of Amazon which has good customer support

and that's why I'm thinking the vs . also what is the difference between a good quality psu and a bad quality psu? just as long as it powers my system without frying it it's good enough for me

Moslty stability. Better PSU's keep the power closer to what is needed. For example, for sleep mode, a stable low power is required and my PSU can't do that so it wakes up the computer when the voltage spikes a little.
Now, the Corsair VS isn't that bad, but the Seasonic is a lot better.
Search for reviews on google, you'll find your answer.
