Is it possible for RAM in slot #2 and #3 to run in dual channel?

According to CPU-Z, they are.

I see countless questions asking why 2 sticks of RAM in ideal circumstances (same coloured/paired slots ie #2 and #4 or #1 and #3) NOT running in dual channel but never the other way around.

My board is a MSI Z77MA-G45 and the manual says running RAM in dual channel requires installation in paired slots (#2 and #4 or #1 and #3) or all 4 slots.

FYI my #4 slot just stopped working and my #1 slot is blocked by my CPU cooler so I am stuck running on #2 and #3.

I was going to say MSI is known for not coloring their ram slots correctly. Not surprised to see you having an MSI board. I am surprised it's not following what the manual says to do. But if it claims its in dual channel I wouldn't worry about it.
