Should I trade I5-2400 and GA-H61M-S2P-B3 with I7 860 and P7P55D-E ?

Since playing Battlefield 1, I see the i5-2400 always fullload 100% while my GTX 1050 is only 60% GPU usage, fps only about 30-40 when the server is 64 people so I planed to trade for combo and then overclock I7-860 to 4.0 because the I7 also has 4 cores of 8 threads so I think it will better than i5-2400 with stock clock. I am using the ICEEDGE MINI FS heatsink and have mod 2 cooling fans. My case has 4 fans, 3 fans 12mm fan and 1 fan 8mm .

Here is my system :
CPU
- Intel Core i5 2400 3.1 GHz
Mainboard
- Gigabyte GA-H61M-S2P
RAM
- Crucial 8GB DDR3-1600 + KingMax Nano 4gb DDR3-1600
Graphics Card
- MSI GTX 1050 Aero ITX
Hard Drives
-Seagate 500gb, Hitachi 500gb, Toshiba 320gb, Toshiba 3tb.
Sound Card
- Onkyo SE-90
PSU:
- Andyson M5 + 550w

I mainly play: Battlefield 1, Arma 3, PUBG, CSGO, WOT and Warhammer Total War.

I remember it being very annoying having it get choppy in multiplayer with my higher clocked 3570k, I can't imagine how a low clocked i5 sandy bridge would be for the OP

the 2600k I personally use now has been good, needed a 4.5ghz OC to play The Division at 60fps capped constantly basically, before I even had dips in it. Ubi hasn't been known to have very good pc ports though. No way I should have even needed to OC to prevent bad fps drops when the much weaker consoles play the game fine, can be in party chat, and even stream from the console itself fine, as I've witnessed people do. Same with BF1 way back, plays and looks decent for what it's worth on the much weaker XB1, yet I needed an FX8320E/i7 for it to not be choppy

Before you trade, confirm the problem. Play the game at your normal resolution, for instance 1080p at low settings. Then play it with everything else the same except at 720p. By lowering the resolution the framerate will go up IF the videocard is the limiting factor. If your CPU is what's holding you back then you will see little to no gain in framerate by lowering the resolution.

By itself, the CPU at 100% isn't necessarily a sign that you are CPU limited.

I'm almost with op on the fact that i5 2400 will cause lag in bf 1, it's playable but annoying. I found that 16gb ram helped a lot, had a gtx 1050 ti and I could get abut 50 to 55 fps avg. But 100% cpu all the time and it causes spikes, jumped to i7 3770 made all the difference 60+ fps high to ultra. I don't know how that older i7. will behave though. Maybe someone else might have tried

an i5 will get choked alive in BF1 multiplayer, my old 3570k made the game choppy and was at 100% usage even with an rx 480 8gb, even with trying dx12 on and off and boggling my mind reading late night forum posts, going to an fx 8320E totally fixed it, I later upgraded to an i7 2600k though due to playing lots of single thread heavy arma day z mod. If you can straight up trade for the older i7? Sure why not.

My backup pc is a 6 core 12 thread 1366, prior I had the i7 920 xeon equivalent in it and it gamed and multitasked fine even on stock low clocks, it honestly seems like for serious gaming and multitasking a pure quadcore can't cut it anymore, I discovered that myself way back when BF1 launched

That game seemed really optimized for AMD hardware, all over the forums people with old FX 6300's and r9 270s and only 8gb ram claimed they were on high/ultra at ~60fps or more perfectly fine.

8 threads with the i7 at 4ghz should give you alot of breathing room, although be wary, those old i7 and 1366 are really power hungry when overclocked, mine couldn't be OC'ed anyway due to it being an old HP workstation but I bought the highest 6c/12t xeon I could, 3.46ghz iirc or 3.3.

It's a matter of thread usage. Games like GTA5, BF1, Witcher 3, WoW and many others, are optimized for 8 theater usage. They'll run on 4 threads, but max out many of the slower i5's, even taxing i5's such as the 6600k and 7600k unless under higher OC.

While it's not really much of an upgrade as far as IPC / passmark goes, just the ability of 8 threads vrs 4 threads is going to make a sizable difference, especially in BF1. Won't do anything for CS:GO or LoL.

I'd swap if it's an even trade. Just make sure you have plenty of psu power and more than plenty of cpu cooling ability, those 1336 cpus get very warm under OC.

for a newer more stout by default i5 (and higher clocked by default), it could probably play stuff well, idk about multitasking and streaming on a quadcore i5 though..... iirc the quadcore "i5" got demoted to the i3 line in coffee lake now... the new i5's are 6 cores now, i7 being 6c/12t iirc.

Let us know how it goes OP, I'd do it most definitely, my 1366 is similar in IPC to your 1156 you're wanting to trade for. Your gpu is enough for tweaked high/medium settings, somebody could certainly do worse than a gtx 1050, I don't blame anybody for not wanting a higher tier gpu right now either due to the price gouged prices which idk when they'll ever come back down....I'm holding onto my rx 480 with dear life for as long as possible lol

In that case I think the trade will help. You are already at a lower resolution, so this is a CPU issue. Knowing the game, knowing that you only have the 4 cores/4 threads, it was probable but it's good to confirm it.

Sorry everyone because I was late, the trader asked for $ 18 to change my combo for his combo, I thought that was not worth it so I decided to spend more money later to buy cpu i7-2600.

2600 is still not a bad cpu even today, it can play most games ever made and browse around online is a breeze, pair it with an SSD to be really fast. I'm currently using a 2600k right now but have a new ryzen 1700 I'm about to install but will most likely keep the 2600k around as a backup, my local area doesn't have much of a pc market and I'm iffy on ebay and don't feel safe on craigslist

Thank you for reply. I am upgrading to I7-2600 or later if I qualify, then I will sell all the machines to switch to Ryzen 1 or 2. That is still intended only because now I do not have enough money.
