Does GPU memory matters?

To put you in perspection, i've seen many comparison, but to pick one, Nvidia GT 740 2GB GDDR5 vs Radeon R7 250X 1GB GDDR5. All benchmarks says that these graphic cards are almost identical powerwise but GT 740 has 1GB video memory more... so does it matter and what to look for the most when buying GPU? Thanks.

Solution
as kanewolf said, it depends on your usage.

if you use the GT740 to drive 4 screens at 1080p for some productivity, the VRAM might come handy.
if you're gaming on a single 640p screen, the VRAM will not matter and the raw speed of the GPU is the most important factor

think of VRAM like system RAM: if you have a computer with 8GB RAM and you don't use those 8GB, adding more RAM won't make the computer run faster. RAM is only an issue when you run out of it, but it doesn't determine the speed of your computer unless in a situation where you desparately need some more.

It matters. Higher resolution displays require more video memory. Anti-aliasing requires more video memory. Multiple displays require more video memory. If you are playing on a single 720p monitor 1GB might be OK but anti-aliasing might be disabled for example.

@kanewolf i didn't put it right, i know it matters, but like what is more important, video memory or all those other details? Because r7 has less memroy but benchmarks shows it is 15% more powerfull then gt 740... so what is the exact difference and where it is seen? Thanks...
