So, I got an old hard drive out of a family members old computer, he gave it to me to use... I was planning to throw it into an older computer that I have that's didn't have a hard drive.
The hard drive I got from him is 640 GB with Windows 7...
But, after plugging the power in, plugging in SATA cables, and starting up the computer, it starts to load Windows, freezes for 2 seconds, quickly flashes a blue screen, and then it asks me if I want to start the automatic repair or start normally. I tried the automatic repair twice, and it did nothing.
I'm not worried about any information on the hard drive...
Is there anyway I can reset it, or fix this to where it will boot Windows 7...?

Solution
It's not booting because you're using an OS from a different system.

If you want Windows on that older machine you'll need to buy a new copy of Windows to install.

This is not necessarily true. If the key for the operating system is on the PC, write it down. Find an .iso of the specific version of Windows that the sticker mentions and burn a disk for installing. Use the disk to nstall Windows, and add the key at the end of the installation. Validation will happen automatically.

Microsoft for quite some years had installation .isos for all versions and languages up on the internet for download on a site called Digital River, a digital content hosting site that Microsoft uses or previously used. You should be able to search around the internet and find someone who has a download available. If Microsoft was doing this, don't see how it could be illegal.

There may also be another way, but I believe you would need a retail key for Windows to download the .iso. Most typical over the counter PCs come with OEM keys, which are good for the single PC. Anyway, you probably wouldn't have access to a retail key so it's hardly worth mentioning. You can try it though if you have the key on the PC. Here it is:
