Hi does any one have a DER8AUER DELID-DIE-MATE 2 or a rocket 88 I can rent buy or borrow as I'm having trouble getting one anywhere thanks

Solution

Okay you're going to have to elaborate. I'm having to do a lot of assuming.

From what I gather you hit 80C (gaming temps or stress temps?) at 5.2GHz OC, 88C at 5.3GHz, 5.4GHz is unstable.

If those are stress temps those temps are fine unless you are doing some seriously heavy video editing on the CPU. Gaming temps won't be anywhere near that. I'm guessing mid 60s. Which is perfectly fine. If you're already at 5.3GHz I wouldn't worry about a delid if the temps you reported are stress temps. You're already at 5.3GHz I'm guessing you're pushing 1.4V or higher. I really wouldn't worry...

I have a 240 looped to a 120 2 pumps with 6 fans and the gains are not 5c? More like 15 to 20c I thought
I maybe im wrong as iv never done this .but read and watched a few articles and that's what they are saying

There are some cases where the delid produces minimal results but the average is 10-15C lower temps.

There is a risk but I have heard very good things about rocket 88 kit. Many say it is foolproof.

The problem is even with the best cooling the 8700k runs extremely hot. In most cases the thermal limit is reached far before the voltage limit.

I would say the risk-reward factor is high, but that's something you should decide yourself. I personally don't think I would risk my 8700k trying to delid myself. I would probably send it to Silicon Lottery to do it. They are professionals. But again that's something you have to weigh yourself.

A better question is what are your current temps now and your current OC, to better determine if a delid is really necessary?

If you don't know what you are doing, don't do it. As everyone has said here, the risk vs reward is not that much of a payoff. And you run the risk of doing some serious damage to your CPU if you attempt to do this, versus if you just leave it alone.

I delidded my (NON-K) 8700 with a delid deb8er 2, artic cleaner 60ml kit (rushed honestly didnt wait longer than 5 min to apply) and applied grizzly conductonaut after it spat a 3 piece sundae on my tissue. I applied a pinhead drop and carefully spread a really thin layer with the black swab supplied from the conductonaut. and left it back on loose the IHS allowing the MB Clamp to hold it in place.

Setup - Cryorig C7 + Noctua L9i Fan - case demands 45mm limit - I literally meet it - as the cooler C7 with stock fan is 46mm and the stock's fins are sticking up (unlike noctua's) giving it clearance issues

It is risky - a lot can go wrong - but it went well on my first go because I took precautions with liquid metal.

I had to do it because - I was getting on a 8700 with RPCS3 The Last of Us - mid 90c - now its getting 78c instead when running for 10 minutes (but im guessing its because it didnt hit 4.3GHz).
I'm still going to mod my Skyreach 4 Mini to fit a Scythe BS2 Rev.b heatsink as that would be 46mm tall and the fan stock (12mm) is 58mm in total - would look cool and would cool well though.

I will try to add pictures - but it will be a 3 week wait til im back home...

In the meantime here is the delid temps of the 8700 running on the above delidded. As you are getting a 8700k - I will assume it would potentially be similar as turbo is effectively the same.

For you unless you really need the space to save or cant fit in your circumstances a better cooler than it really depends. its up to you if you're willing to risk the delid and lose of warranty.

I actually want to try it with a 8700k now out of curiosity.

BUT unless you are extremely confident in your abilities to be careful (as in liquid metal applying and taking necessary precautions as you need to - and you understand the risks involved - then I cant decide for you - its up to you to decide.
