Will using a ethernet switch slow down internet?

My current setup is: Frontier modem/router being used only as a modem with wifi shutoff with 1 connection out to a netgear router and then it being used for my wifi and 2 hardwire connections (ps4 upstairs and PC hardwired with long cable downstairs) I would like to move my PS4 downstairs. If I were to use a Ethernet switch to connect current long cable ran for pc and then connect both the PC and PS4 to that switch, would it degrade my connection at all? Thought about moving netgear router downstairs but that would affect all the wifi devices (2 Roku's, Smart TV, Chromecast and phones/tablets upstairs). I have pretty crappy rural internet (6mpbs down/1 up), so want to do whatever is best to maximize my crappy connection.

Thanks,
Jeffrey

Depends what you mean "at all". All modern switches take the complete packet into a buffer and then retransmit it. This of course takes some time. Now on a gigabit switch with a maximum packet size this time is .011ms....just over 1/100 of a millisecond. Now if you were to ping the nearest server to your house you would get about 10ms. So can you actually detect 10.011ms instead of 10ms.

But as others have pointed out it will have no impact on your connection that you will be able to see.
