Deciding whether to choose from 4 gb or 8gb since 4gb is cheaper, wondering what are the differences it will give? I have ddr3 pc3-10600 ram
And currently installed is 2gb

If you are running any modern operating system you will see significant increase from going from 4GB to 8GB. 8GB is recommended for any modern game. 16GB on the other hand shows little benefit in anything other than the most stressful of games. 8GB should be considered the minimum.
What type of games, and what OS, in general 8GB is recommended as minimum, 4 can work but some games really struggle or are simply not able to be played with 4GB, which is why 8GB is recommended as a minimum.

Also try looking for used RAM or ebay or craigs list it will be cheaper if price is a big concern, you may be able to get a used 8GB stick for around the price of a new 4GB.

4GB barely gets Windows 10 running decently, most games will run horribly and some not at all as already pointed out. I vote for 8GB as the absolute minimum for comfortable gaming too.

After five years of having 32GB in my current PC, I cringe at the idea of using a PC with less than 16GB. At current RAM prices though, 16GB is the most I could justify buying if I had to build myself a new PC today.

Unless you close all your background tasks every time you play a game, you'll need more than 8GB to be comfortable in most non-trivial games. With only Chrome, Firefox, Skype, Thunderbird and a handful of other similar stuff I usually leave open all the time, I'm already clocking in at 9GB of baseline RAM usage. If I had only 8GB of RAM, starting a game would be painful due to swapping.

8GB is a bare miniumum for Windows 10 and Modern AAA titles, 4GB you can fill that will just a browser open and running something as simple as Diablo 3, Path of Exile or League of Legends.

16GB is what you would AIM for on the latest titles like PUBG and newer games as they will use a ton of RAM.

Most people don't have all that open.
8GB would work 16GB better if your running side programs.
I also have 32GB for work programs having 2 monitors makes me have more open while gaming than people with a single monitor. Some games I even run 2 accounts at the same time.

I don't know anybody who doesn't leave at least one browser open, at least one distribution service (ex.: Steam or Battle.net) open, at least one online chatting service (Skype, Ventrilo, Discord, etc.) service, possibly Twitch/Curse or similar add-on manager (I have that for WoW), then you have all of the third-party software updaters (Mozila Update Services, Java Updater, Adobe Updater, etc.), device driver and other apps bloat/services.

If I just boot Windows, I'm already at 6-7GB used before I even begin re-opening software even though I opt out of automatically starting launchers on boot for all stuff that gives me that option.
