Is my laptop screen broken?

I’ve had this ASUS X501A laptop for just over five years. The laptop had Windows 8. I’ve never had any problems with it until a couple of months ago. Basically, wheneverI would adjust the screen, the screen would go white with black stripes going from one side of the screen to another. I always put my laptop on sleep mode by pressing the power button and turn it back on again. This would always make the problem disappear.

However, about an hour ago, everything went downhill. I adjusted my screen so a I could get a clearer view of it. I didn’t move it rapidly or anything. As soon as I adjusted the screen, I heard a little “crack” noise coming from the laptop and the screen went black. It wasn’t the battery that went crack because the battery is still working perfectly fine. I reckon it’s to do with the actual screen or something. I tried fixing it by pressing the power button and turning it back on - but this didn’t work. So I tried turning it off properly - this didn’t work either. I also tried taking my battery out and holding the power button down for a minute, but this didn’t work either.

Have I broken by laptop screen? Is it possible to fix this?

I recommend having a technician (who is also trained in laptop repair) take a look at it. You would have to take the display casing apart at least and this not something normal users should try. It sounds like a broken or disconnected connection.

If you feel like opening it up yourself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94C8ooHtyD8

but I think something is physically broken inside the laptop or hopefully disconnected. The stripes can be seen when the display between the LCD and the laptop motherboard isn't proper.

Not sure where the crack could of come from , but what you could try is taking out one of your RAM sricks , if you have two. Happened to a laptop I was taking a look at a while back.

Maybe look at some tutorials to on taking apart a laptop screen and you might find you problem, thats only if you think it's worth it.
