My Rig:

CPU: Intel Core i5-6500 Skylake
MOTHERBOARD: Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Gaming 3
RAM: 16Gb DDR4 2133MHz, Dual Channel, Kingston Hyper X Fury Black
GRAPHICS CARD: Gigabyte Geforce GTX 1080 G1 Gaming
SSD: Samsung SSD 850 EVO, 1TB
Wi-Fi ADAPTER: TP-LINK AC600 Archer T2U Wireless Dual Band USB Adapter
CASE: NZXT S340 Elite, with 4 chasis fans
POWER SUPPLY: XFX 650W, TS Series, Full Wired, 80 Plus Gold Certified

And i plan to upgrade my CPU to a i7 7700K

Solution
I have no problem overprovisioning a PSU a bit. Say 20%.
It will allow for a stronger future graphics card upgrade.
It will run cooler, quieter, and more efficiently in the middle third of it's range.
A PSU will only use the wattage demanded of it, regardless of it's max capability.
750w would be very good.
If you want a suggestion, look at the Seasonic focus line.
Highly rated with 7-10 year warranty. In a small case, the shorter than usual lentgth is a plus.
It comes in various efficiencies from gold to platinum.

I'd stick with what you have.

The 7700K theoretically uses only 26w more power.
The recent trend has been more performance at the same or lower wattage, esp for GFX cards which are the single biggest drain. Gone are the days where you need 1,500w for a dual card system.

Min recommended for the 1080 is 500w, and it's a 180w card.
That should put the min for sli at 700w.
You didn't say anything about a 2nd card, if you get one, it would also be a good idea to upgrade the PSU. I'd personally go something ~750-850w.

You might want to go stronger for sli.

That said, your current 650w psu will run any single top card, and will likely do so in the future.
I would not buy now for sli when sli may no longer be a good future option.
Even today, a single good card may give you a better gaming experience.

I like the saying:
"Do not do today what you can put off for tomorrow. Tomorrow, you may regret your premature action"

yea its been a couple people telling me so. the thing is: i need a full modular psu for my new rig and i want it to support whatever ill throw at it. forget about the sli, ive got my lesson. so a 750W psu would be futureproof for me?
