I went through the NO BOOT, etc... sticky and found a lot of useful information, but I'd like to make sure that the problem stated in the title (CPU incompatible with the motherboard) is the issue at hand before I go and do anything else. I've also tried some of the suggestions like reseating the cords, etc.

The motherboard is a Asus STRIX z270H
The CPU is an intel i7 8700k @ 3.7 GHz

I, foolishly, thought that because the socket types were the same, that they would be compatible. However, after reading further, it seems that the chipsets are different (the 8700k apparently needs a motherboard with a series 300 chipset. Furthermore, Asus' website says that the z270H only handles intel CPU's in the 6th and 7th generation). I also checked with PCpartpicker and the compatibilty warning popped up there too, although it unfortunately didn't elaborate more on that.

Is an incompatibilty between my 8700k and z270H the most likely reason my computer does not begin to boot? I feel like I should clarify that there are no beeps, the fans don't start, and no LED's are on except for a small orange one to the right of the GPU ports. In essence, literally nothing happens when I hit the power button.

Thanks!
