I need help deciding if I require a ups. I have an i7 7700k and gtx 1080, an evga 850 b2 and a 600 joules surge protector. I don't store much important data its mostly for gaming so I'm fine retrieving data from the cloud just worried about the os if I ever lost power.

W10 and mostly W7 are pretty good when it comes to power loss and do not fail because of it very often, with an SSD it's even rarer to fail. Best to keep and keep updated a good backup of whole OS disk or just system partitions. Also keep a bootable copy of your OS so you can repair it if necessary. A big question is also power stability where you are and how often you have power failures.
I very rarely have power failures twice a year at most. But I don't know how stable the power here in Louisiana is. I'm concerned about brown outs. This is quickly becoming like a boat. It just seems like theres always something new I need to protect my pc from.
