1. You must have "dell downloads manager" install first. *
2. turn off antivirus and firewall, all security OFF.
3. Go to Dell website, and load the drivers by tag number, etc....
4. Restart computer
5. Turn firewall back on. Turn security back on.

* your driver will not load - unless you install "DELL updates / downloads manager" FIRST.

Updates: sometimes an update will stop drivers from working.
Turn off automatic updates, load critical updates manually. Check manufacturer website for list of incompatible updates.

Just type in your service tag number and go to sound drivers and download the driver you need, you dont have to have the download manager installed at all. Once its downloaded just double click on the file and it will install it.

I have worked on many Dell computers and...the drivers never loaded correctly (from the dell website) without the Dell updates manager installed.
That's what I was taught about Dell drivers. Hope that helps...(it absolutely solved problems)
But you can load a stand-alone driver without the manager, probably.
