Hello,

Recently I couldn't get my PC monitor to come on after it went to sleep. The PC was still on. After trying the keyboard, CTRL ALT and DELETE etc. I went to reset it and noticed the HDD LED was on. Stupidly I still pressed the rest button. Upon restart the SSD showed a SMART error.

The SSD is a Kingston Hyper X 240Gb, but it now shows as a Phison S SD S10 and 2MB in size
I have only put this SSD in my new system for a few days, never been used, but been on my shelf for a year or so.

I guess the SSD is stuffed forever, but strange that it bricked its self, my old pc has had a few resets over the last 4 years and never done anything like this!

Any comments would be great, and yes I know I shouldn't of turned it off with the HDD light flashing. I was inpatient!

Cheers

"Upon restart the SSD showed a SMART error"
Backup your stuff and run like it's a grenade about to explode.

"has had a few resets over the last 4 years"
WOW! I turn my computer completely off everyday. At work I leave my PC on but reboot at the end of EVERY day.
Reboots for a PC are like exercise for a human body.

Thanks for the reply.

As mentioned the system has only been built for a few days, and its a new SSD, although been on the shelf for a year or so. There is no data on it as I am running my old PC still!

What I mean by reset is actually pressing the reset button, like if the system crashed or became unresponsive. I always shut down the PC as a rule.

That's a good rule to follow. I wish there was something good to tell you but since that drive has been sitting on your shelf it could be out of warranty.

Well, Kingston BIOS software won't see the drive, and windows can't do anything with it. If you try and inialize it I get incorrect function... I think i'll have to get a new one.....
