I have a dell optiplex 3040 micro desktop, with 4 gb of ram. I decided to upgrade the ram to 8 gb. To do this I took a ram module from my laptop, an go probook 4440s, and inserted it into my pc. Now when I power my pc on, the power light blinks orange and the pc doesn’t turn on. Any fixes?

EDIT: It works after I remove the ram I installed, but why doesn’t it work with the ram?

Solution

All RAM must be matching with original. Cannot mix 2 types together.

After installing all matching ram:
Unplug inter net..turn off fire wall and turn off all security.
Put the windows disk the the drive, select: "upgrade."
This will re-configure the system to work with the new RAM. But it will not erase programs or files.
Re-start, turn fire wall back on...

The RAM is configured for the system by the loading of the OS.
BUT all RAM must be matching.
