Hello im having a really hard time deciding if its worth it to upgrade my i7 2600 into i5 4690k, i currently have this specs rn
Cpu: i7 2600
Mobo: P8h61-m le/Csm
Ram: Kingston generic 8gb 1333mz
Gpu: Gtx 780
I recently got an offer to buy a combo of i5-4690k, Gigabyte g1.Sniper z97 and 16gb of 1600mz Ballistic ram for $250 im not sure if its worth it for me upgrading into this specs. My current Motherboard doesn't support sata 3 or usb 3.0 which is very disappointing also finding a good z77 mobo is been a struggle and knowing that with an older mobo can break anytime. I think im able to sell my current mobo setup for around $140 so i would only have to spend about $110 but im not sure if its just worth it. Would it also be smart save up more money and grab a newer generation intel or just buy a z77 mobo for around $80 and call it good.

Easily worth it if you can sell your existing setup. Not so much if you can't. 250 bucks goes a long way towards a new system that would perform a lot better than either of those PLUS offers some features not found on either of those.

Especially with the current price of memory. If, at the end of the year, the prices on memory recede back to somewhat normal prices where you could get 16GB of DDR4 for 100 to 125bucks, then it makes a lot of sense to upgrade the whole thing because then you'd only be looking at about 160 bucks more, for a setup like you see above, than what that Haswell configuration is going to cost you. Really it depends on whether or not what you have now is still doing what you need it to do or not.

If it is, then...
No. I would not go for it. I would go for the 8xxx series directly if you need to upgrade.

This would be an upgrade that will last for sometime.

If it is, then there is no reason to upgrade or sidegrade at this time.

i decided to just save my money and wait for a good deal for a newer generation combo. i got a question tho would it be smart to buy a benq Xl2024z for $170 instead. would buying a 144hz monitor rn be a good idea? i currently just have asus 60hz monitor

Not unless you have concrete plans to upgrade your graphics card to some much newer and higher tiered. Unless of course you game at settings and a resolution that allows you to achieve 144fps. If not, you are likely to have problems with tearing.

I'm not sure that 780 is capable enough, and likely it is not without turning a whole lot of sliders to the left, to support those kind of frame rates.

And I think you meant XL2420Z, not XL2024Z. I can't find anything on the second one. The first one seems to be a great panel but again, only if you can support the FPS needed to avoid tearing.
