I completely disassembled my rig to clean the motherboard's heatsinks.
Took them all off and replaced the thermal pads and when i put everything back together the computer wouldnt turn on at all. I had to switch over to my z77 motherboard and 2600k for the time being as i figured this out.

Its this motherboard from asus that i think i killed by accident:

A few common problems I would look for are (1) any potential shorts. A short will often trigger a safe guard that prevents the system from powering on. (2) The switch on the back of the PSU could be off. (3) You forgot to plug in one of the required power cables (8-pin CPU power?). (4) You didn't connect the case power switch correctly to the motherboard.

If it does nothing and hasn't sparked or smoked, I'm guessing it's just not powering on for one of the above reasons. I hope one of these things helps!
If you removed the processor, it is very easy to disturb the socket pins on re insertion.
I would check that first.
I think it unlikely that simply reseating heat sinks would have anything to do with a problem.

If all else fails, you can send the motherboard to ASUS for repair. I know it costs about $50 to repair a cpu socket.

I think i might've other tightened them. i also didnt remove the cpu at all. i only removed it after to test different cpu's i had for that socket and i checked for bent pins and nothing. it's been out of service for like 3 months now but i thought i'd give it a shot here and see if anyone had any advice for that.
