I recently got a new wired connection. It came with a router. I am going through the problem which occurs often that I cannot connect to the router from other room. I can only connect it if i go to close proximity. And even after connecting it disconnects me even if i go 3 to 4 steps away from it. So i need to stay very close to the router to maintain the connection. I have even got my cable replaced. The only problem remains is the router. What do i do to fix it? Replace the router or do i change some setting in the router page?

It sounds like a problem with the antenna or antenna power. Most consumer units don't let you adjust the db gain for the antenna power through the software. Does the unit support external antennas? I'm wondering if it's suppose to have an external antenna attached that might be missing. This would cause the problem you are experiencing. If the problem isn't with missing external antennas, then it sounds like a defective unit. You should never have problems connecting within the same room.

The isp provided me the router. Its a router cum modem. And weirdly it has no antennas
