I was wondering what upgrades would be recommended for my current computer. I would like to be able to play games on the PC but right now the hardware is not good enough to run any games. If you would like to recommend any upgrades that are compatible with the specifications I have posted that would be wonderful. Or if you could recommend another PC I could purchase that would also be great thank you so much for your help.

A search on that motherboard gives me HP/Compaq as the computer. Is this correct?

The most cost effective upgrade would be videocard or videocard and CPU.

Just by adding a videocard your gaming will get better on everything your dual core CPU can handle. If you only play dual core friendly games, then that's all you need. If it's an HP/Compaq, you are better off with a low power demanding card like a GT 1030.

Some games require four threads, either as in quad core or in dual core with hyperthreading. If you want to play games like this then you'll need something like an i5 2400 CPU to replace your dual core. Then you add the videocard too.

You can probably get by with 6gb, it's not ideal but I think it's workable for now.

A lot...

For gaming, the first thing you'll need is a discrete graphics card. Adding a GTX 1050 Ti to the current system may be enough for what you want to do. Building a new PC is usually preferable, but prices (especially GPUs) are artificially high right now. You will be paying a lot.

I would consider starting with the gfx card upgrade, see how that works for you, follow that with a CPU upgrade. Keep in mind, finding a new Sandy Bridge or Ivy Bridge CPU will be hard to do. And you'll pay a premium for one. Used would be the best way to go for a small budget.

Is this a pre-build system? If so, list the make/model.

A Pentium G640 is well below the minimum system requirements on just about all modern day AAA games.... and only 6GB of memory(8 is considered the minimum for most games these days).

You would basically need a new cpu, motherboard, memory, video card and to be safe, a new psu. So really, that's a lot of upgrades. It would make more sense to buy a new system(either pre-built or build one yourself).

A lot depends on your computer, the form factor(ie SFF/mini tower) and whether or not you can upgrade the power supply.
