Hi I have my old pc with Q8200 2.33 ghz and 4gb ram ddr2 can't add more ram, I want to buy another video card I am between 730 4gb ddr5 128bits 900mhz compatible with pci 2.0 and 1030 2gb ddr5 64 bits 1200mhz to 1450 mhz but is pci3.0 backwards compatible with 64 bits. What do you recommend me, i see some issues with bottleneck in 1030 it could be a problem?? I don't really know so much about it.
Thanks I would really appreciate the help!

Forget about the 730......the 4GB of ddr5 is completely wasted on it and is nothing more than a marketing gimmick, the card hardly needs more than 1GB.

PCIe is forward and backward compatible, so don't worry about putting a 3.0 card in a 2.0 motherboard, it will work just fine. The only worry about the GT 1030 is will it work on your old system....this will all depend on what BIOS updated you can find for your motherboard, and does it support the latest series of cards. My suggestion would be to find a GTX 750 or 750Ti 2GB, it should work just fine in your older system.

I've seen people use the 1030 on older systems like yours. Which one you should get really depends on the software you run. Some games will run fine on an older quad core, for those games a 1030 would be better. Some games will struggle with an older CPU like yours, in those games the extra performance of the 1030 won't help.

So if you name some games you want to play then I could be more specific.

The C2Q 8200 is a pretty slow CPU by today's standards. Of the two choices you mention, the GT 1030 is the better choice. The GT 730 is slower and has more VRAM than it can use. You should have no compatibility issues with the GT 1030 2GB. PCI Express is a backward compatible interface.

What can games could I play?. I like battlefield, resident evil, doom, fifa 18 pes 18 starwars battleground, emulator of nintendo64 pokemon soul..
64 bits I see is less than the 128 bits provided by the 730 but even that 1030 is more powerful? What is the impact in games withe the change of pcie3.0 to 2.0?

The GT 730 only uses 64 bit for it's DDR5 memory, there is a slower 128bit DDR3, but never buy that card. As for the difference, the 1030 has over twice the performance of the 730 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fXCSG6zdxdQ

As for PCIe 2.0 vs 3.0, this makes less than 1% performance difference in top end cards, you wouldn't see any difference in these lower end cards.

There is actually that card I fidn't believe it
04G-P3-3739-KR
Evga 730 4gb ddr5 128 bits 900mhz its cost is about 111 dollars in my country
1030 costs around 100 dollars

It really doesn't matter if it's 64 bit or 128 bit as it won't make the GPU work any faster, 64 bit is enough for a GT 730 running on DDR5. Even the 1030, which has over twice the performance of the 730, is running on 64 bit.

Anyway, if the 1030 will work (make sure your BIOS version supports it), then it's cheaper than the 730, so it's obvious that would be the best of the two.

Uhmm so last question could be how can I know if it is compatible or not 1030 with my motherboard it is. DG31PR?

for the price of a GT 1030 you can get a used HD7850 (if your PSu has a 2 PCIe 6PINs and at least 500w) and get MUCH better performance for gaming with your Q8400

also with the make and model of your motherboard you maybe get to upgrade to a newer Q series Cpu upgrading your q8400 possibly to a 9400 or 9550 for example.

sadly the 1030 cause problems with that proccesor, I had to give to another person that has an i3 2100 seems to be better compatibility.. The game sometimes crashed when playing at 900p or 720p, the old video card worked better it was fluid in the games I stayed with that old card amd 6450 maybe I upgrade a 730.
