My pc recently broke and the only thing i have left is my rx 480 8gb.

Now i need a new cpu, motherboard, ram and a psu.

I already decided what psu and ram i would pick but i can't decide what cpu i want to get.

Option #1
AMD Ryzen 5 1600 € 178,95
ASRock A320M-DGS € 53,95
Total € 233

Option #2
Intel® Core i5-8400 € 192,39
Gigabyte Z370P D3 LGA 1151 (Socket H4) € 68,12
Total € 261

I saw that the 8400 had better performance but it's slightly more expensive. And i'm not sure if the motherboards make any difference. Is it worth to buy the more expensive option since i'm on a budget and won't i just bottleneck it with my gpu. I will mainly use it for gaming.

tobyhaps1: If you are on a budget I would go AMD to be honest by the simple fact it is cheaper.
Now the AMD uses the AM4 socket and will be in use for atleast 4 years so IF you wanna upgrade the CPU down the line you will not need a new motherboard on top of it. But if you go with Intel and if you wanna upgrade to a new CPU down the line will almost with a 99,9% guarantee need a new motherboard on top of it.

Performance wise when it comes to FPS it will be close since games in general is more down to your GPU rather than the CPU. Unless you play games like SimCity Skylines that is CPU...

What’s your gpu? ASSUMING your gpu is decent, and since you’re a gamer, I’d go with intel. They have a higher base clock so even without an aftermarket cooler you would do well, with overclocking, it still does great, but the Ryzen will start to come close to it in performance due to the major overclocking potential, but an aftermarket cooler would be definitely necessary. Plus, 6 cores should be plenty.

Only thing to pay attention to if you go for the AMD system is the RAM.
Ryzen has gotten better now ofc but I still see that it can be picky when it comes to RAM so make sure it is on the QVL list of your motherboard before you buy it.
Oh and Ryzen also like faster RAM speeds :)

The strong point for Intel is ofc 6 real cores.
For pure gaming AMD cant beat the Intel in any shape or form. Intel is simply better.

If you want to keep this system for as long as you can and do a complete new build somewhere in the future I would lean towards the Intel system since it will last you longer when it comes to gaming performance.

Good luck.

Yeah, I'm an idiot about the top of the message thing. Lol. You do make a good point. I just figured that gamers typically lean more towards intel, but if you are considering upgrading the cpu further afterwards, AMD may be a good option. If not...eh, may want to lean to intel.
