I'm hearing a lot of things about headsets such as getting a good quality non-gaming headset such as the audio technica or sennheiser. I won't be needed a mic since I have a good quality external one already, but what I'm looking for is something that sounds good and will immerse me in the game, and the most important thing is being able to hear small details like reloads and footsteps and pinpointing exactly where that's coming from. Some people who seem experienced in headsets say virtual surround sound is not needed or is worse than stereo because the software in games already utilizes the sound for you. So if I get these high-quality stereo headsets I will still be able to hear where things are coming from accurately just like the high-end virtual surround sound ones?

One last thing is I never really had experienced a quality headset, I used a cheap stereo headset for my gaming and I cannot distinguish where the sound is coming from at all, and this is my main problem.

I've used an assortment of both expensive and inexpensive head phones. As long as you don't mind there not being a mic, the Audio Technica ATH-M50X is excellent in the $150 price range. I've found it to have better sound quality then headphones around the $300 price range. I use them for audio production as well as audio mastering.
