Operating system missing

Hello! I recently bought a computer with Windows XP, unaware that World of Warcraft no longer supports that system. So my computer savy friend suggested I install a new OS and even picked out the installation dvd for Windows 7. They were going to install it for me but I was too impatient and had been looking online and figured I could do it myself. Since the computer was already clean (and I didn't add anything to it), I didn't think I needed to back up anything. So I go through the Windows 7 installation process, and make it all the way through (I think, at least), so my next step is to install my usb wifi adapter. So I attempt to do that but become impatient with it being slow so I close it in hopes of trying again. I can't remember if I restarted the computer or not but now every time I start the computer it either tries to install Windows 7 again (with dvd) or cannot find an OS (without installation dvd). And I cannot reinstall Windows 7 because there no longer is an OS. Can anyone help??
