I have been provided with an ubiquiti litebeam m5 by my isp and I have my own router of tp link(tl-wr840n). i am able to open nat only when i am directly connected to pc through my modem but always get strict nat when connected through both modem and router. i also turned on dmz on both modem and router but it doesn't work. kindly help me get through this problem.

Solution

disable the DMZ and clear the ports you have in port forwarding, you want everything to be back the way it was. Next can you tell me what kind of router you are using? Also, are you using the windows firewall? if you answered yes that you are using the windows firewall you may need to make an exception for the program ...

you don't need to do any of that. none of those devices need to be in a dmz. your router will act as a border firewall protecting them which it cannot do if placed in the dmz, you are creating a security vulnerability.

I agree the only reason you would need a DMZ would be for a web server or say public wifi but otherwise, I would not recommend creating one.

I don't believe a DMZ would help that. A DMZ is where you would place items that you want outside people to access but you don't want them to see the rest of your network. That should not be a problem for games because they just connect directly to the host. If you were to place say a router in the DMZ or your own computer all it would do would be maybe create an extra hop or make your pc less secure. So you aren't able to load sessions at all? Have you tried running a speed test to make sure you are getting what your provider says you are?

EDIT: If you want i can see if i can try and diagnose a better solution or i can drop my suggestions

Saying "I just want to play my game" and then trying to put your pc inside a dmz is wildly unsafe. Also, just saying I cant play video games so I need a dmz is a very sparse amount of info. are you getting any error code, if so, what are they? what is your nat type? what game are you trying to play? have you tried to run a traceroute to see what hop you are actually having an issue? have you tried updating your router's firmware? let's start there. for now though, forget about a dmz.

Once you saw that UPnP was on, did you turn it off and back on again and then follow up by power cycling your router? if no, do that. Lastly, don't forget to tell me the make and model of your router.
