Background: I run software that does a lot of calculations and should is capable of multi-threading.
So I just upgraded to the i9-7980XE. I managed to over clock it to 4.5GHz whilst my i7-5820K runs at 4.2Ghz. I ran the same test with both systems and much to my disppointment the i9 doesn't show any improvement in speeding up the calculations despite the faster clock time and substantially more threads used (33 vs 9). I've tried to sort of some settings in the BIOS but nothing seems to give me any improvement.
Is the i9 architecture so inefficient? Or could it should be that the software isn't using the threads properly (unlikely since it is slower when I set the i9 to use 9 threads instead of 33). Or maybe I just have all my settings wrong somehow.
Any ideas on what might be the issue?
