Hi,

first up please excuse my bad english, it is not my mother tounge.
I love retro gaming, so i finally saved up some money and bought myself a Siemens Xpert 7800 PC from Ebay wich was designed for Windows 98. It came with an onboad soundcard and an onboard GPU (Ati Rage Pro Turbo AGP). I freshly installed Windows 98 SE on the internal 6 GB Western Digital harddrive and after installing all the drivers i found on the internet everything seemed to work.

But then i tried out games like Duke Nukem 3D, Blood and Doom. The music played just fine (General Midi) but after a while of gaming (or just after some restarts of the games) the Sound FX went completely silent. I could not seem to find a solution. I tried out some VDM drivers, but they did not work either. After a whole System restart everything works fine for a moment, then the Sound FX disappear again.

I think the drivers currently in use are the normal Microsoft Sound drivers included with Windows 98 SE.

Does anyone know this problem?
I really appreciate your help! :)

Solution
When i had this problem (and, my god, i had, twice) the onboard sound chip was just damaged. One time the chip itself, and at the other occasion one connector was broken.
The games you play are rather made for DOSBox on a modern PC, by the way...
