I have a cable modem that broadcasts wireless signal. I am not getting enough out of my range extender. I would like to connect with an Ethernet cable ran through the attic to the other end of the house. Will this work? The range extender has an Ethernet port. Made by amped wireless. If this is not possible with the wireless range extender is there a product that would work for this type of set up? Are these plug and go or do they need to be configured?

Looking at the manual and a google search, I don't think that hardware supports an ethernet input network. For what you want to do, you want a WIFI access point (WAP). If you have a WIFI router, you can configure it to act like a WAP or you could purchase a dedicated WAP.
Here is the Tom's sticky on converting a WIFI router into an access point -- http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/36406-43-convert-wireless-router-wireless-access-point
