Yea so I have no clue how to explain the issue, I have a 2013 Seagate Backup Plus 3TB Hard Drive that I use to backup important data I have on a computer, but the problem is that I recently got a new laptop. An Acer Aspire F 15 F5-573-725L and the External Hard Drive doesn't work unless I plug in it into my 4-port USB 3.0 Hub even though I plug it in into a USB 3.0 drive. My previous laptop I was using was a Samsung Chronos Series 7 laptop back in September 2012 and I don't need a USB hub to plug it in into the laptop and same as a iMac 2011. I tried replacing the USB 3.0 cable, but the best I got was that it could read it for a second and then disappear. So I honestly have no clue how to fix this issue with my current laptop. Could it be the laptop? The USB 3.0 cable? the external hard drive itself? I have no clue. please help.

Solution
- From checking your laptop specs I am seeing the usb 3.0 port supports the off-line charging which is sometimes source of issues with regular functionality of the usb port,

1- Test drive connectivity after a cold boot to windows as sometimes resuming windows from sleep or hibernation messes up USB ports power distribution
2- -Windows power scheme sometimes interferes with proper functionality of USB ports, go to power options in windows and select high performance just for the sake of making sure as balanced power scheme sometimes turns some USB ports off (which by the way could be configured not to do so)
-if possible check in device manager that your laptop USB...

-is your external hard drive a usb 2.0 or 3.0 drive ?
- is your USB hub powered type ? (means get's power from a wall power outlet) or is it a passive hub?
- did you try a different drive ?
- Did you try the usb 2.0 port of your laptop or the other USB 3.0 ?

Looking forward for your updates.
