Get a 980ti or Wait.

I’m currently using a MSi GTX 960 2gig, and a Core 2 Quad Q8400 with 8 gigs of DDR3.

I’m building a i7 8700K Asus Z370-A system with 16gigs of DDR4.

My goal was to pair my new build with a GTX 1080, but that’s looking that’s never going to happen for a reasonable price. So I’m looking at picking up a second hand 980 ti.

I’m currently gaming on a 1080p panel, but I’m probably going to go with a larger resolution at some point in the future.

My question is, should I just go ahead and build my new rig and re use my GTX 960 and wait for something to change in the graphics card market? Or pick up a 980 ti and get the performance I was looking for for at least a few years?

To be honest, with prices as messed up as they are I suggest getting the best your budget will allow. From what I've seen, even the older 9 series cards can cost too much. Save up your money and see what it can get you. If it's not much faster than your 960, just keep your 960 and buy something else when the prices are better.

Thanks, that’s what I’m thinking about doing. I get decent performance at 1080p with the 960, with the exception of games that require a ton of Vram like ghost recon wildlands. I can’t even play it comfortably on low settings with my current setup.

But I also know the CPU I currently have is a huge bottleneck. So bad to the point my GPU isn’t fully utilized in some games. I may just build my new rig and save up and hope something changes with the market.

After looking at 980 ti’s on eBay they’re going for what 1070 ti’s were just a couple months ago. Which is ridiculous.

It is. The prices are horrible. I worry what I'll do if/when my current card dies and I need to replace it. I'm going to spend tons of money on a junk card basically because others are using GPUs for something other than gaming. Thanks guys.

Wait. In addition to the other pearls I would not(haven't) go into a new build with a well used second hand GFX card. What happens if my card dies within the next 3 years? Call EVGA and get a RMA. What happens if I purchased a 980 Ti and it died a week or a month later? I'm stuck with my integrated GPU.

Wait and see.
