PSU not delivering enough power to GTX 580

I just bought a gtx 580 and a 650w psu. Gpu requires 2x8 pin connectors but my psu has 1x6 pin and 1x8 pin connector. So I bought a 6 pin to 8 pin adapter but when I plug everything in and power on the system, GPU fans go 100% but no display. In addition to that there are two led's in back of the connectors. When I plug the 8pin connectors they light up green, however one that has adapter instantly turns red when pc is powered on.

So I think that that psu not delivering enough power through the adapter. Maybe I should splice the adapter and and molex connectors in parallel.

Hope you guys can help
P.S. I dont have option to buy new gpu or psu.

Then you're stuck.

Please offer your PSU's make and model number. The electrical info becomes more important because you're using an inferior connection.

Can you please also enter your BIOS/Uefi and tell us your 12V reading? 12.0 to 12.5V is the green zone.

In bios it says that it is 11.712V maybe it is the cause and also psu doesn't have 80plus rating of some sort, however on information card it says that it can deliver

12V-30A, 5V-33A

5V&3V combined largest: 225W
5V&12V combined largest: 575W

Normal capacity: 650W Maximum Capacity: 800W

I ask for PSU and you offer partial electrical info:) I guess it'll work. It shows me you are unknowingly preparing a recipe for disaster. Old and worn out PSU that doesn't meet safe specs. on its own and is severely under qualified to power a 580.

My advice? Don't do it. Apply patience. Wait until you can upgrade. To be perfectly blunt, you are using an unsafe and underpowered PSU and that needs to be the first upgrade. Have you heard of a PSU dying and taking other components with it? You're getting close to that neighborhood.

Ahahahahahhaha you are right :D
I just get an evga 600w psu and works perfectly fine thanks

Nice. Not a great unit but certainly a heck of a lot better than that other one. Alleviates my worries. I had their 500W and it lasted until I needed to upgrade. I'm not slamming them but only saying that is one of their lower end power supplies.

What I do like is that this has gone full circle. You had an issue and you solved the issue. Beautiful:D
