Hi im asking this question because everytime i play an open world game such as the witcher 3 and rise of the tomb raider i get small stutters that are really annoying and frustrating to see when playing the game, i dont understand why its doing it as im exceeding 60fps by alot without vsync getting up to the 100`s fps mark and my temps throughout my build are good however these are my specs
Cpu: i5 4590
Gpu: Gtx 1070 8gb
Psu: 750w
Ram: 2x 4gb hyper x fury 1600 mhz
what i think the culprit is my hard drive which is the Hitachi HGST HTS541010A9E680

How are you temperatures? Is anything throttling? Have you tested your RAM? Have you run any hard drive diagnostics?

(As a side note, you should be playing with VSync on as you get no benefit from 100 fps)

So you've run MemTest on your RAM?

my temperatures are fine im getting average of 40 degrees on my cpu and 30 on my gpu and 20 for my hard drive.

What about when gaming? Temps. outside of gaming are irrelevant.

without vsync getting up to the 100`s fps mark

That is a perfect storm for tearing.

I understand the speed is only 5400RPM but so far I can only see evidence for tearing.

If you do buy a SSD I recommend a 256GB or larger SSD.

those were my temps for gaming probably should of specified that xD btw how would i fix tearing just a new monitor?

40C average? With what ambient temps. Exactly which 1070 is that? I don't think that's a normal in game temp.. Someone please correct me if I am mistaken.

tl;dr It can be HDD fault. But not in many cases.

Sorry for my bad english, just want to share my experience.
I was playing dishonored 2 back then.
I'm using laptop with i5 8250u, and 930mx with 4gb ram.
And it does stuttering a lot. When the stutter doesnt occured, it goes around 20-40 fps in any area.
At first, i thought it happened because my RAM doesnt meet the minimum requirement which is 8GB or it just because my 930mx cant play that game at all.
But my laptop is also stuttering when opening apps, it even freeze sometimes.
I really think it was a HDD fault.
I downloaded HD sentinels and saw that my HDD health is only 8% left.
Then i downloaded apps named Victoria to scan my HDD health and to check if there any bad sector.
And there was so much bad sectors.
I switched to SSD.
My laptop boot is faster, opening app is faster.
Then i downloaded dishonored 2 again, and you know what?
NO STUTTERING AT ALL.
It goes around 30-40 fps without any FPS dropping to below 10.
So i think stuttering occured it can be because of HDD

Download and install Hard Disk sentinel - this will let you know in English if your drive is about to die or not.
If it is, you are probably correct that it's your HDD on the way out, if it says its all 100% or close to that, then it's another problem.
Either way, that software will let you know and eliminate one problem.

I was typing this when you posted above... glad you solved it.
