I have an ASUS RT68U router than works fine but the house has some poor WiFi zones. I purchased the RT88U to replace router in the hope of using AiMesh to create APs (ethernet and WiFi). However, after doing the firmware updates on both, the router (88U) cannot locate or connect to the node (68U). I have used both ethernt and wifi to scan/connect. Also I have noticed more client devices can't find/connect to router (set to Ch6 on 2.4 GHz). No interference mapped on the channel, signal strength measures -43 db. Does anyone have success in setting up AiMesh with ASUS routers? Any reason why new clients can't connect (Anova cooker, WEMO light switch, WHP smart washer/dryer)? Physical distance of clients range from 3 meters to 10 centimeters from router. What are reasons client devices can't locate/connect to router? Can router settings be used to improve connectivity to new devices?

Solution
I have essentially an identical setup (RT AC68P as the node, and an RT AC3100 as the base). Had exactly the same issues and I had *thought* I had the most recent firmware. WRONG!
ASUS as a string of firmware updates available and although I had update my old 68P not long before trying AImesh I was still using an old version.
When I went to ASUS support I found I was a couple of versions behind. Went through the song and dance of re-flashing 68P, reinitializing it to factory specs, and suddenly everything worked fine. I’ve been up and running for about a week now with no problems!

MERGED QUESTION
Question from mingman202 : "IP Address Conflict with Router"

I replaced my ASUS 68U router with a newer 88U. The IP default address of the 68U was standard 192.168.1.1 and I did not change it. After disconnecting the 68U and installing the 88U and configuring I left the IP address the default 192.168.1.1 on 88U. Now when I followed all the steps from ASUS to configure AiMesh, the ethernet connected 68U is unseen by the 88U. I am guessing that since both routers have the same IP address it doesn't work. Solution to check would be to re-assign the new router a different static IP and try again. So the question: the DHCP of the router assigns all the other device IPs, is that based on the initial IP 192.168.1.1 up to 192.168.1.254? If I change the main router to 192.168.x.1 where x = 0 or 2 will that change the DHCP base IP to 192.168.x.1 for all clients? Or will the old router still be searchable at 192.168.1.1?
