Hi.

I'm trying to get windows to install on my sata protocol M.2 SSD. It is a Intel 545s and I do have it installed into my M.2 Slot.

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/memory-storage/solid-state-drives/consumer-ssds/545s-series/545s-256gb-m-2-80mm-6gbps-3d2.html is the SSD.

I have two normal 1tb HDDs that are recognized just fine but I cannot for the life of me to get the bios or windows install utility to recognize my M.2 SSD.

And yes, the z370 HD3 supports either PCIe x4 or SATA m.2 SSDs.

Any thoughts?

Any suggestions?

Have you looked under the NVME settings in the bios, which is nested under the Peripherals section? I realize you have a SATA drive, but perhaps there is something in there that needs to be changed so it is not looking for a PCI drive on that slot.

Might also want to try enabling/disabling CSM support (Compatibility support module), make sure AHCI is enabled and enable UEFI under "Other PCI devices". Although it is SATA I'm sure it is a UEFI device, so UEFI and not legacy should likely be enabled.

Most importantly I would think you need to verify that UEFI is enabled under storage boot device control if you wish to boot from this device.

Also, under SATA support, you might need to enable "ALL SATA" devices rather than "last HDD". I'd probably start with this one first.

Also, if you have a SATA drive connected to the SATA_3 connector, you will need to disconnect that drive as the M.2 slot and SATA_3 header share bandwidth.

The weird thing is last night I went out and bought a new 2.5" SSD. Got rid of one of my 1tb HDDs and replaced it with the SSD. When I booted for the first time into the bios after switching it, my intel SSD was recognized. I rebooted the pc, didn't change anything in the bios in the mean time, and it was gone and now I can't get it back. I don't know if I should install windows on my PNY SSD I just bought or try to get the intel to work again.
