Hello.
I have a motherboard asrock z170 extreme 7+ and 10 hard drives connected to it.
I was reading the board manual and I could not understand it well.
If I connect an M.2 to the motherboard, do I lose any SATA port?
I want to know if I can have 10 hard drives connected and also use an M.2 as a boot device.

Thank you so much

Solution
You are limited to 10 Sata devices no matter how they are connected (M.2 or Sata ports).
If you have an NVME PCIe SSD plugged into any M.2 port, all your Sata ports will still work.
If you have a Sata SSD plugged into an M.2 port, it will disable 2 Sata ports.

Use of any of the 3 M.2 ports will disable some SATA ports.

M2_1, SATA3_0, SATA3_1 and SATA_EXP0 share lanes. If either one of them is in use, the others will be disabled.
M2_2, SATA3_2, SATA3_3 and SATA_EXP1 share lanes. If either one of them is in use, the others will be disabled.
M2_3, SATA3_4, SATA3_5 and SATA_EXP2 share lanes. If either one of them is in use, the others will be disabled.

Yes, the NVMe drive does not share any lanes with the Sata drives.
