Hi,

I've purchased an FX4300 CPU and I'm wondering if I need to change my motherboard or not. When I check the specs for it some websites say it's an FM2+ socket, some say it's an AM3+.

Some websites have it listed as being compatible but only as 1.5 version (guessing that's the bios version?) And I believe mine is on 1.3

Am I right in thinking if I upgrade my bios to 1.5 that this combo would work? Or do I need to buy a newer AM3+ motherboard?

And if the old motherboard will work but will somehow limit the performance of the CPU please let me know, my knowledge of motherboards isn't great

Thanks!

The board is essentially an AM3 socket...so the FM2+ part is falsely stated by Mr. XYZ. Per their support site, depending on what revision of your motherboard you have, you will be able to work with the FX-4300 but you're going to need to perform a BIOS update prior(with your previous processor and then drop in your FX-4300).

You sure you're on rev 1.3? If so then you're highest processor supported by that rev is an FX-4130.

That's good news! Thanks for the quick response too. One last thing, would you think there would be any reason to upgrade the motherboard? Or will the CPU run exactly the same in this motherboard as it would any other cheap AM3+ board?

Edit: I just checked on the motherboard and it is 1.3, so i don't think the 4300 is going to work. Time to find a good cheap AM3 board i think
